Pavone Chat Roudoudou (Juane)

This is an original piece of work handmade by Marie-Christine in her French Studio. Marie-Christine’s brooches are all individual works of art which take up to three weeks to create.  The brooches are hand cut from old Galalith, (they are not moulded or laser cut). The Galalith starts of as a milky white and is then dyed in order to achieve the bold and vibrant colours . Each brooch is hand made, hand painted, polished and glazed. Every stage of the brooch production is done by hand.

Galalith is a man made plastic created from milk casein, hence the name “Gala” (milk) and lithos (stone), discovered in the late 19th century, is the first plastic ever made.

Raw Galalith requires hand cutting and several rounds of sanding and polishing to achieve the silky shiny finish.

Each Pavone piece on Wild Brooches is unique and the photos shown are of the actual brooch you are purchasing.  Please treat your brooch with care and do not drop it on hard surfaces. Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions and sunscreen as they may dull or damage the galalith and surface decoration.
